Standard armchairs or adjustable height armchairs are available from some local authorities but usually with very little choice. As an alternative it may be possible to raise an existing armchair on chair raisers or by using additional cushion inserts.

Powered rise and recline armchairs are also available in some areas but these are only supplied when there is an assessedĀ need, such as people who have a medical need to have their legsĀ raised or people who are otherwise difficult to move but have to be seated for most of the day. Bear in mind that a recliner armchair takes up a lot of space. Usually at least five feet when reclined and it has to be near a wall socket for the power. It can be difficult to use a powered armchair if you also use a hoist.
