Like air travel, travel by sea needs planning and a little advanced research at the time of the booking. Whether you are planning a Mediterranean cruise, using a car ferry to cross the channel or a day trip in the Scottish islands, you should check with the operator first.
Do not assume they will know what your own difficulties are. You may have to discuss mobility, bathrooms and access on to the boat. There may be very steep passenger ramps. Not all areas of the boat may be suitable because of trip hazards, access between levels or cabins for sleeping may only have bunk beds with limited space.
Some companies may request the person has a travel companion to assist. There may be a discount if this is a condition of travel.
