Visual Problems

6) Blind spots, blindness in one eye.

Blind spot in one eye

This occurs if the pathway is affected directly behind one eye. This is much less common after a stroke. Blind spots are missing patches in the visual field of the affected eye and can be of various shapes and sizes. Central vision ( directly in front) or peripheral vision (around the sides of the visual field) can be affected. Check by closing each eye in turn. The unaffected eye should have no missing patches and sight should be as it was before the stroke.

Blindness in one eye

This occurs when the pathway just behind the eye is affected. The person will be unable to see objects on the side of the blindness but will also have problems with judging depth and distance from objects.
