14) Meal supply

  • There are companies who supply plated frozen ready meals. Some of these companies deliver and also do a selection of food for special diets. Some local authorities also provide this service and arrange to supply a microwave oven if the person is alone and has limited ability to cook from fresh.
  • Some local authorities supply meals on wheels but many only offer a frozen meal delivery service. This service may depend on a needs led assessment. If you do not have a freezer they make arrangements to supply a table top freezer and microwave if required. If the person lives alone and cannot cook or reheat the food themselves a care worker can visit as part of a care package. Sometimes this means only one hot meal is supplied per day and a packed meal is left in the fridge. Check with your local authority about the service they offer.
  • Many of the large supermarket chains also offer on line shopping so the person who had the stroke or the carer can pre order either frozen meals or chiller cabinet ready meals to be delivered.
