Social contacts with friends can become stronger but some may not know what to say or how to help so they may gradually withdraw. This could be upsetting for the person after a stroke but also for you if you lose contact with people.
If the person has been very active in the past, the stroke may limit their abilities to participate in activities and hobbies they enjoyed before. There are ways to adapt to continue to have a social life and this is important for continued well being and quality of life. For more information about social activities after stroke see Topic 4 At Home – Self Help – Getting back to leisure activities on this website.
