6) Spiritual support networks – Family and friends

You may be able to get “spiritual support “from close family and friends. Sometimes only someone who knows you well as a person in your own right can be in this special role of “soul friend”. This person is someone who you could completely open up to knowing that it would be in total confidence.

For example, an old friend of about the same age could be the best person to reminisce about life before the stroke happened. It may help to connect you with your feelings and ways you have coped with difficult situations in the past. They may be the one to offer the quiet physical presence. They may be able to help find your inner strength to cope.
